Adult Program Youth Program

Whether you want to specialize in one art or demand the full program the Wetoskey Academy of Martial Arts have a lot to offer. It makes no difference if you are new to the arts or are a black belt wanting to further your studies the academy can help you reach your goals.

With so many methods to offer each person will find a rewarding path to self-discovery. Many at the Wetoskey Academy take the full program, which offers one the opportunity to research systems and methods from China, Indonesia, Thailand, France, Japan, America, and the Philippines.

The full program has classes in Jun Fan Gung Fu, Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Wing Chun Gung Fu, Kali, Lameco Eskrima, Maphilindo Silat, Mande Muda Pencak Silat, Kickboxing Blend, Grappling Blend, and Absolute Spontaneous Directness. This may seem like a lot to learn but the idea is to have an understanding of what each has to offer in each range of combat and be able to flow in and out of those ranges.

Most people are of course interested in growing in Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do.  This allows one to experience the training methods and progressions of SiJo Lee's Jun Fan Gung Fu and then to grow to become his or her own expression of Jeet Kune Do. The Academy's J.K.D. program teaches you the real and effective methods of J.K.D. taught by SiJo Bruce Lee and passed on to SiFu Dan Inosanto and SiFu Larry Hartsell. These are the methods and training progression passed down from SiJo Lee himself, not the movie version that some feel to be real Jeet Kune Do.

But the Academy's research and training mythology has not stopped there, we have continued to further our growth in J.K.D. and in utilizing this approach to research other systems and styles to continue the path to personal liberation. So each of the styles, systems, methods, and ways that we research are directly influenced by the J.K.D. approach to learning and integrating that learning into a fluid alive way of combat.

The guiding light and drive of the program is the study, research, and development of street effective methods of self-defense. To always focus on techniques and methods of training that brings about a person who can use these ways in a life and death street altercation. So once again self-defense is the root of all the programs.

So no matter if you are a person who specializes in a single course or one who takes the full program they will find a world of information and lots of great experiences at the Wetoskey Academy of Martial Arts.

The Wetoskey Academy of Martial Arts Youth Program has been developed to give the students the best martial arts training available and to help them learn skills necessary to develop as good citizens. Among the many things learned in class are developing and setting goals, accomplishing goals, learning to respect others as well as themselves, self-discipline, attention skills, listening skills, communication skills, leadership skills, as well as physical skills.

As with the entire program at the Wetoskey Academy all four ranges of combat are researched and developed to enable the student to function in each of these ranges. We teach meaningful techniques that are combat effective and useful, self-defense is the main priority, not just forms and sport.

All this and fun too! One must enjoy what they are doing and the martial arts are no exception. We give your child or young adult useful tools as well as ways to help them develop their creativity. All of this is taught along with fun drills and themes to help them enjoy their learning experience.

The martial arts are not just for jocks or the athletically inclined. In fact in some ways the martial arts are the great equalizer between the bully and the couch potato. Unlike baseball, football, soccer, or any if the other sports that are played in the U.S. the Martial Arts are still a relatively new activity. In other parts of the world the various martial arts have been handed down for generations to family and friends, mostly in secrecy, and in some areas of the world the arts are actually taught in the public school systems.

In this continent the eastern martial arts were first introduced by the Filipino’s who sailed for the Spanish when they were discovering and building there empire, and then latter by the Chinese who came to help build this country. The current trend in the arts were first introduced by the returning G.I.’s after world war two and have grown from there. So the Karate, Gung Fu, and other systems that are taught in the U.S.A. are still not as well engrained into our culture as they are in other areas of the world.

The other sports and activities that are played in America are those things that are in our public schools sports programs. These are things that people have been doing in their back yards for many years and are part of our culture. These are the activities that most of the kids migrate into and especially the more athletically inclined.

The dojo or dojang (martial arts school) are different in that most everybody going into them are starting with little or no idea what they are getting into. So there is equality here, and except for those who pick up some moves from movies and T.V., everyone is starting from scratch.

This gives everyone an opportunity to learn the important things the arts have to give like discipline, focus, self motivation, concentration, honor, people skills, and respect for others and yourself. Everyone has an equal opportunity to find out about him or herself and to learn about others. These are skills that they will use for the rest of their lives.

So give your child or young adult a unique experience of learning an effective martial art and having fun, as they become tomorrow’s leaders.
